How TurnApp protects your data

Privacy

Last updated October 9, 2026

Private by design

Your schedule, homework and notes are visible only to you. Not even the TurnApp team can open them.

Links encrypted

Your Veracross calendar links are encrypted the moment you save them and never shown in full again.

Never sold

No ads, no selling or renting your data, no tracking you across other websites.

Yours to delete

Delete a link, a note or your whole account at any time. Deleting your account erases everything.

01

The short version

TurnApp is a dashboard for students at schools that use Veracross. To show your classes and homework, it needs your Veracross calendar links and copies of the events in them. We treat all of it as private: it belongs to you, only you can see it, and you can delete it whenever you want.

We don't show ads, we don't sell or rent your information, and we don't use it for anything except running TurnApp for you.

02

What we collect

Only what TurnApp needs to work. Here's everything, why we keep it, and for how long.

WhatKept
Your email, password and name

To create your account and sign you in. Your password is stored only as a scrambled hash; nobody can read it.

Until you delete your account
Time zone and study hours

To show class times correctly and find your free time to study.

Until you delete your account
Veracross calendar links

To download your schedule and assignments. Stored encrypted.

Until you remove the link or delete your account
Classes and assignments

Copied from your links so the app loads fast and works between syncs.

About 2 weeks back to 2 months ahead; older events are removed automatically
Homework checkmarks

So the work you finished stays checked off.

As long as the assignment is in your calendar
Personal schedule

Activities you add (practice, work…) for the free-time finder.

Until you delete them or your account
Notes, transcripts and study sets

Class notes you record or type, notes made by AI, flashcards, quizzes and study guides.

Until you delete them or your account
Sync history

Whether each sync worked, and the error message if not, so we can fix problems. Never the link itself.

Until you delete your account
Activity days and AI usage counts

Which days you opened the app and how many AI requests you made (numbers only), for overall stats, daily limits and costs.

Until you delete your account

03

What we don't collect

  • No audio. When you record a class, your browser turns speech into text. TurnApp only ever receives the text, never the sound.
  • No grades, location, contacts or photos. TurnApp doesn't ask for them and can't see them.
  • No tracking or advertising tools. There are no ad networks or cross-site trackers in TurnApp.
  • No Veracross password. TurnApp never signs in to Veracross as you. It only reads the calendar links you choose to paste.

04

How we use it

  • To show your schedule, what's happening now and next, and what's due.
  • To keep your calendar up to date, by checking your Veracross links regularly.
  • To find free time to study and suggest what to work on.
  • To make notes, flashcards, quizzes and study guides when you ask for them.
  • To keep the service running: fixing sync errors, preventing abuse and setting daily limits on AI features.
  • To see how TurnApp is doing overall, using counts only (for example, how many students used the app this week).

We never use your information to advertise to you, and we never sell it.

05

Who can see your data

You. Your schedule, assignments, checkmarks, personal schedule, notes and study sets are visible only to you. This is enforced by the database itself, not just by hiding buttons: every request is checked against your account.

The TurnApp team. The person who runs TurnApp has an admin page with overall numbers (like total students, active students and sync errors) and a list of accounts so problems can be fixed. That list shows each account's name, email, join date, last active date, number of connected links and status. The admin can disable an account that's being misused, and every admin action is recorded. The admin page cannot show anyone's schedule, calendar links, assignments or notes.

Nobody else. Your school, your teachers, Veracross and other students can't see your TurnApp data. The only exception would be if the law requires us to share something, and we'd only share what's required.

06

Services we use

TurnApp runs on a few trusted services. Each one only gets what it needs to do its job.

  • Supabase stores the database and handles sign-in. Your data is stored encrypted at rest.
  • Vercel hosts the website. Like any web host, it keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site running and secure.
  • Veracross: TurnApp downloads your calendar from the links you provide. We don't send Veracross anything about you.
  • Anthropic provides the AI (Claude) used for notes and study tools. See AI features below.
  • An email provider sends account emails, like confirming your address or resetting your password.
  • Your browser does the speech-to-text when you record a class. Depending on your browser, the audio may be processed by its maker (for example Apple or Google) under their own privacy policies. TurnApp never receives it.

07

AI features

Some features are powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic: Make Notes, and the study tools (flashcards, practice quizzes and study guides). They only run when you tap the button.

  • When you use one, the text it needs (your transcript or notes, and the class name) is sent to Anthropic to create the result, which is then saved to your account.
  • Under its terms for business customers, Anthropic does not use this data to train its AI models.
  • We record how many AI requests each account makes (numbers only, never the text), to set a daily limit and track costs.
  • AI can make mistakes. Always double-check important facts against your class materials.

08

How we protect it

  • Encrypted calendar links. Your links are like passwords to your schedule, so they're encrypted (AES-256) before they're saved, only decrypted on our server right before syncing, and never sent back to your browser. You only ever see a short, masked hint.
  • Private by default. Database rules make sure each student can only read and change their own data, and disabled accounts can't access anything.
  • Secure connections. Everything travels over HTTPS. Secret keys stay on the server and never reach the browser.
  • Careful logs. Our own logs never include calendar links, notes or passwords.

No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your data and will tell affected users if something goes wrong.

09

Cookies and your device

TurnApp uses a small amount of storage on your device, only to make the app work:

  • Sign-in cookies keep you signed in. They're required for the app to work.
  • A time zone cookie (for an hour, while signing in) so your first sign-in uses the right time zone.
  • Your light/dark choice, and whether the loading animation already played, are remembered in your browser.
  • A backup of a recording in progress is kept on your device until it's saved, so you don't lose a class if the page closes.

We don't use advertising cookies or analytics trackers.

10

How long we keep it

  • Your account information is kept until you delete your account.
  • Classes and assignments are only kept from about two weeks ago to two months ahead. Events that disappear from Veracross are removed from TurnApp on the next sync.
  • Notes and study sets stay until you delete them.
  • When you remove a calendar link, its classes and assignments are deleted with it. When you delete your account, all of your data is permanently deleted.

11

Your choices

  • See and change your information in Settings: your links, time zone and password.
  • Remove a calendar link in Settings. Its classes and assignments are deleted right away.
  • Delete a note from the note's page. Its study sets are deleted with it.
  • Delete your account in Settings → Danger zone. This permanently erases everything: your profile, links, classes, assignments, checkmarks, personal schedule, notes and study sets.
  • Ask us for a copy of your data or about anything in this policy, using the contact below.

12

Students and parents

TurnApp is made for high school students and isn't meant for children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.

TurnApp is an independent app. It isn't made by, run by or endorsed by Veracross or your school, and your school doesn't get access to your TurnApp account.

13

Changes to this policy

If we change how TurnApp handles your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For important changes, we'll also let you know in the app or by email before they take effect.
